If you receive the AARP’s magazine, some of the computer scams they describe may sound familiar. Perhaps you have opened a threatening email, supposedly from the IRS, demanding back taxes. Have you ever received a message asking you to click on a mysterious link or download an unfamiliar application?

All this might lead you to conclude that a connection to the Internet is simply not worth the risk. That would be a pity because there are a number of simple measures you can take to protect yourself.
